M50 (50 Monganshan Road), a popular contemporary art disctrict in China, evolved from a textile mill. Its appearance changed over time as it hosted more and more galleries, gradually turning it into the iconic art hub it is today. In 2021, a new shopping mall “Tian An 1000Trees” designed by British architect Thomas Heatherwick was openend. In this ever-growing area, there is a furniture store ” Rushi Furniture”, which boasts a proud area of over 600㎡. The store used to sell furniture and interior items such as imported Northern European furniture, hinoki cypress Japanese-style rooms, built-in kitchen units, etc., but it was revamped after meeting FUJI FURNITURE in 2019. In 2020, it reopened with the concept of “delivering the aesthetics of life to our customers, from furniture sales to interior design, through the high quality of furniture made in Japan”. The name of the store was changed to “FUJI FURNITURE” and over 100 pieces of FUJI FURNITURE furniture are currently on display.
At the end of February 2022, Rushi Furniture and FUJI FURNITURE will take another big step forward with the opening of a new shop on the second floor of the RED STAR SHANGHAI WUZHONG O’GLORIA HOME FURNISHING SHOPPING MALL in Shanghai.
Our meeting began with a single inquiry from Rushi Furniture. Rushi Furniture is run by a group of representatives who hold a love for Japanese culture and furniture and have over 20 years of experience selling furniture and interior items. They believe that furniture made in Japan, rather than Northern Europe, is closer suited to the Asian aesthetic tastes and most in tune with the ergonomics of Chinese people. They also believe that the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship and the quality of the furniture will be highly valued in the Chinese market. We are deeply moved by Rushi Furniture’s understanding and appreciation of Japanese furniture and by their great love for FUJI FURNITURE’s furniture. Rushi Furniture resonates with the values imbued in FUJI FURNITURE’s mission philosophy “Make each one of you as the Protagonists of Life from the new value created by Creative Destruction” and supports our endeavour to not only to produce furniture but to bring new values into existence while we do so. We decided to join hands not only because of our mutual desire to produce high quality and innovative design, but also because of the value we create through our furniture.
In 2020, FUJI FURNITURE shipped 108 items. Within the renewed store, Chinese and Japanese culture co-exist beautifully. The pandemic caused a temporary lull in sales, but now they are receiving many orders consistently.
Among them, the nagi arm chair, the Hammerhead reclining chair by Oceans, and the Koti dining sets have gained a great amound of popularity. As a result of the high praise received by their Chinese customers, Rushi Furniture is gaining more and more trust in the market and contributing to the growth of our customer base.
Shanghai, where Rushi Furniture stores are located, is a cosmopolitan city hosting a rich diversity of lifestyles where various nationalities and cultures meet and are influenced by each other. Among the variety of trends, fashion, health, comfort and ecology are the current buzzwords. For furniture, the focus is on minimalist, casual rich, and new Chinese style (new design with traditional elements).
Chinese customers are looking for furniture that is intelligently designed and uses environmentally friendly materials. While Japanese furniture is well crafted, practical, and easy to use, there is an impression that some of the products are a bit small in size.
The furniture made by FUJI FURNITURE is not only of high design quality, but it is also made from materials that are environmentally and health-conscious, with a sturdiness that is guaranteed through repeated strength tests during quality verification. Our furniture is made with the desire to provide customers with pieces that will continue to increase their joy and satisfaction as they make use of them over time. We feel that it is precisely because our furniture is made in this way that it is in demand in cities across the ocean where diversification is advancing.
To test our furniture’s quality, Rushi Furniture had the components of a random selection of pieces inspected. The inspection results showed that FUJI FURNITURE’s furniture had very low formaldehyde levels, which reaffirmed the high quality of our furniture. The inspector also reported that the results were the best amongst all the inspections he had done so far.

While we respond to changing times by incorporating the voices of our customers into our designs, we are committed to our pursuit of furniture that can be used safely and with peace of mind.
